The best spiritual warfare apps, compared

Six apps for praying against the enemy’s snares: which ones are Catholic, which read the prayers to you, what each one costs, and who each one is really for.

We make AngelGuard, one of the six. We put every app to the same questions, from its own store page, and we say where another app is the better choice.

How we compared them

These are the five apps the US App Store showed first for “spiritual warfare” when we checked, and Catholic Exorcism, the most installed of the Catholic apps here on Google Play. Every fact comes from the app’s own App Store page, Google Play page or website, read on October 13, 2026. Each fact was checked twice, independently, and where the two checks differed we went back to the source.

Prices are for the US store. A rating is always shown with how many ratings it rests on, because 5.0 from one rating says much less than 4.9 from twelve thousand. When an app says something about itself that a store page can’t confirm, such as how many languages it offers, we write “they say”. No app paid to be here, and there are no affiliate links.

Catholic, or Christian with no denomination named

Four of the six describe themselves as Catholic: AngelGuard, Armory, Catholic Exorcism and Catholic Spiritual Warfare. Armor Up and Shut Up, Devil! describe themselves as Christian without naming a denomination, and both are built around declaring verses of Scripture.

For a Catholic the difference is practical. The Catholic apps carry the Church’s own prayers of protection, such as the Prayer to St. Michael, and they place spiritual warfare inside the life of the sacraments. The Scripture apps do one thing well: putting a verse in your mouth at the moment you need it.

Deliverance prayer, yes; exorcism is for a priest

Every Catholic may pray for protection and deliverance: asking God, through Christ and with St. Michael and the saints, to keep us and those we love from the power of the Evil One. Our spiritual warfare prayers and prayer for deliverance are prayers of this kind.

Exorcism is something else. The Catechism calls it the Church asking “publicly and authoritatively in the name of Jesus Christ” that a person be withdrawn from the Evil One’s dominion, and says the solemn exorcism “can be performed only by a priest and with the permission of the bishop” (CCC 1673; Code of Canon Law, can. 1172). So a good app prays to God; it does not teach you to command spirits. The Catholic Exorcism app keeps its prayers for priest exorcists behind an approval step. If you are frightened, start with confession and your parish priest; no app takes the place of the sacraments. More in our guide to what the Church teaches about exorcism.

What they cost

Armory and Catholic Exorcism are free, with nothing to buy. Shut Up, Devil! is free, with an optional one-time upgrade of $1.99. Armor Up has a free tier and a subscription of $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year. Catholic Spiritual Warfare says a subscription is required to access all its features and content, at $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year. AngelGuard is free for 7 days, then $39.99 a year or $7.99 a month (the prices in its App Store description), and every one of its prayers is free to read on this website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a Catholic spiritual warfare app?

Yes. Of the apps compared here, four describe themselves as Catholic: AngelGuard (narrated prayers for the whole household), Armory (a free field manual), Catholic Exorcism (from the St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal) and Catholic Spiritual Warfare (voice-guided prayers, by subscription).

Can I pray deliverance prayers myself?

Yes. Any Catholic may ask God for protection and deliverance, for example with the Prayer to St. Michael. A solemn exorcism is different: the Catechism says it can be performed only by a priest with the bishop’s permission (CCC 1673; can. 1172). Lay prayer asks God; it does not command spirits. If you are afraid, talk to a priest.

Which spiritual warfare app is free?

Armory and Catholic Exorcism are free with nothing to buy. Shut Up, Devil! is free with an optional $1.99 upgrade, and Armor Up has a free tier. Catholic Spiritual Warfare says a subscription is required, and AngelGuard is free for 7 days, then a subscription; its prayers are free to read on angelguard.app.

Which spiritual warfare app reads the prayers aloud?

AngelGuard narrates its prayers with a word-by-word read-along, and Catholic Spiritual Warfare offers voice-guided prayers. Armor Up has audio declarations and Shut Up, Devil! has audio tracks. Armory offers a podcast, and Catholic Exorcism doesn’t mention audio.

Is the Catholic Exorcism app approved by the Church?

None of the apps compared here claims an imprimatur. Catholic Exorcism is made by the St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal, a non-profit whose founder, Msgr. Stephen Rossetti, has faculties as an exorcist by the Center’s own account, and it keeps its prayers for priest exorcists behind an approval step.

Is AngelGuard approved by the Church?

No. AngelGuard is independent: it claims no imprimatur and is not affiliated with any priest, parish or diocese. Its prayers come from the Church’s tradition, and our editorial standards say which sources we quote.

If AngelGuard is the one for you
