He is risen!

40 days of fasting + 6 Sundays · the Lord's Day is never a fast day

Fast days (Ash Wednesday, Good Friday), from your 18th to your 59th birthday: one full meal; two small ones that together don't equal it. Ash Wednesday and Lent Fridays: no meat, 14 and over — except March 19. The sick, pregnant and nursing are excused; children can make small sacrifices. Even a few Stations are a good prayer. — USCCB, 1966; CIC 1250–1253.

Prints on one page, A4 or Letter.

How to use it

Print the sheet and put it where the family eats. Each day has one small thing to do, taking turns between the three ways the Church keeps Lent: prayer, fasting and giving. None of them takes more than a few minutes.

Sundays are not fast days: they are the Lord’s Day, which is why the calendar runs 46 days for the 40 of Lent. On Fridays the Church asks us to give up meat and invites us to pray the Stations of the Cross; on March 19, the feast of St Joseph, there is no abstinence. A family alms jar runs through the weeks and is brought to church on Holy Thursday.

It is free to print, copy and share with a parish or a class, with no sign-up. The dates and readings follow the Church’s calendar for 2027.
