Surrendering Tomorrow's Worries

Lord, I have a bad habit. As soon as my head hits the pillow, my mind races ahead to tomorrow. The meetings. The deadlines. The conversations I am dreading. The problems I have not solved yet. Tomorrow is not even here, and it is already stealing tonight's peace. "Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient." — Matthew 6:34 Lord, this is not a suggestion from You — it is a command. Do not worry about tomorrow. And yet here I am, doing exactly that. So tonight, I make a conscious decision: TOMORROW'S PROBLEMS ARE NOT TONIGHT'S RESPONSIBILITY: I do not need to solve them now. I do not even need to think about them now. They will still be there in the morning, and in the morning You will give me the grace to face them. But tonight's grace is for tonight — and tonight's grace is for rest. TOMORROW'S STRENGTH WILL COME TOMORROW: Lord, You do not give me Friday's strength on Wednesday night. You give manna for one day at a time. If I try to hoard tomorrow's worries, I will be overwhelmed — because I do not have tomorrow's grace yet. It will be there when I need it. Not a moment before. TOMORROW IS IN YOUR HANDS: Before I wake, You will already be at work in my tomorrow. Preparing the way. Removing obstacles. Opening doors. Closing others. When I arrive at tomorrow, You will already be there, and everything I need will be provided. SO TONIGHT, I SET A BOUNDARY: Tomorrow — you are not welcome in my bed tonight. You will get your turn. But tonight belongs to rest. Tonight belongs to trust. Tonight belongs to the God who holds tomorrow in His hands. Lord, seal this boundary with Your peace. Guard my mind. And give me the gift of a mind that is present — right here, right now, in this quiet moment with You. Goodnight, Lord. See You in the morning. Amen.
