Calming the Storm Within

Calming the Storm Within is a Catholic prayer for peaceful, protected sleep — Finding stillness when anxiety keeps you awake. Read the full prayer below.

Lord Jesus, my mind is a storm tonight. Thoughts crash like waves — one worry after another, each one pulling me deeper into anxiety. I cannot find the off switch. I cannot make it stop.

But You can. You who stood in the bow of a boat on a raging sea and spoke three words that silenced the storm:

"Peace, be still." — Mark 4:39

Speak those words over my mind tonight, Lord. Peace, be still.

To the thoughts racing about tomorrow — peace, be still. Tomorrow has enough trouble of its own. I do not need to solve it tonight.

To the replays of today's mistakes — peace, be still. What is done is done. God's mercy covers it, and ruminating on it will not change it.

To the fears about my health — peace, be still. My body is in God's hands. Worrying will not add a single hour to my life.

To the anxiety about my finances — peace, be still. The God who feeds the sparrows will not forget to feed me.

To the concerns about my family — peace, be still. They are loved by God even more than I love them.

Lord, I know that anxiety is not a sin. It is a human experience, and You understand it. You sweat drops of blood in Gethsemane. You know what it is to carry unbearable weight.

But You also conquered it. Not by avoiding it, but by surrendering to the Father's will. I surrender tonight, Lord.

[Breathe in slowly... Lord Jesus Christ...]

[Breathe out slowly... grant me Your peace...]

Repeat this breath prayer as you drift to sleep. He is with you. He is watching. You can rest now.

Amen.
