The Lord's Prayer — Prayed Slowly
A deep meditation on every line
This is a guided meditation on the Lord’s Prayer: the Our Father prayed slowly, one line at a time, with a short reflection on each petition, based on Matthew 6:9–13. The meditation closes with the words “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory”, which Catholics pray at Mass as a response after the priest’s prayer rather than as part of the Our Father itself. Lord Jesus, You taught us to pray like this. Not as a formula, but as a model. This morning I pray Your prayer — slowly, deliberately, letting every word sink deep.
OUR FATHER:
Not "my" Father, but "our." Even in prayer, I am not alone. I am part of a family — a vast, global family of believers all calling on the same Father. And He is a Father — not a distant force, not an impersonal power, but a Father who knows my name.
WHO ART IN HEAVEN:
You are transcendent, Lord. Beyond my comprehension. Higher than my highest thought. And yet You are also near — as close as my next breath. Heaven is Your throne, but my heart is Your home.
HALLOWED BE THY NAME:
Your name is holy. Set apart. Above every other name. This morning I honor Your name. I will not use it carelessly. I will not take it for granted. I will speak it with reverence, and I will live in a way that hallows it.
THY KINGDOM COME:
Lord, bring Your kingdom to my life today. To my workplace. To my family. To my neighborhood. Let Your reign be visible through my actions, my words, and my love.
THY WILL BE DONE, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN:
Not my will, Lord, but Yours. In heaven Your will is done instantly, perfectly, joyfully. Let it be so in my life today. Even when Your will costs me something. Even when I do not understand it.
GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD:
I depend on You for everything, Lord. Not just food, but energy, wisdom, patience, courage. Give me what I need for today — not tomorrow, not next week. Just today's bread for today's journey.
FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES, AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US:
Lord, I need Your forgiveness this morning. And I extend forgiveness to those who have wronged me. This is not optional — it is the economy of grace. I receive mercy. I give mercy.
LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL:
Lord, today I will be tempted. You know exactly when and how. Lead me away from it. And if the enemy attacks, deliver me. I trust Your deliverance more than my own willpower.
FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY, FOREVER AND EVER.
