Prayer to Saint Jude for Impossible Causes

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Saint Jude Thaddeus, apostle of Jesus, patron saint of impossible causes, I come to you tonight with one of those impossible cases. You know what it is. The thing I have been praying about so long that I sometimes wonder if I am foolish to keep asking. You are called the patron of the impossible because the early Church confused you with Judas Iscariot, the betrayer. Christians stayed away from praying to you out of fear. Eventually, only the most desperate, the ones with nowhere else to turn, called your name. And you came through. You earned a reputation as the friend of those whose situation looks beyond hope. Tonight, I am one of those people. The Letter of Jude in the New Testament is short, only twenty-five verses. But it ends with one of the most beautiful doxologies in all of Scripture. To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy, to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore. Amen. To Him who is able. He is able. Even in the case I am bringing tonight. Saint Jude, intercede for me. The relationship that everyone says is over. The illness that the doctors say will not improve. The addict in my family who has rejected every intervention. The financial situation that does not have a way out on paper. The job that has slipped away. The reconciliation that seems impossible. I bring it all to you, Saint Jude. Not because I doubt that Jesus hears me directly. He does. But because the saints in heaven are part of the family of God, and asking them to pray with me is no different than asking a friend on earth to pray with me. Except they are closer to the throne. Except they have already finished the race. Saint Jude, you walked with Jesus. You saw Him heal the leper, raise the dead, multiply the loaves. You saw the impossible become ordinary in His hands. Take my impossible case to Him. I make a promise tonight. If You answer this prayer, I will tell others about Your intercession. I will give Saint Jude the credit. I will not forget that You came through. The early devotion to Saint Jude grew because grateful Christians shared their stories. I will share mine too. Most holy Apostle Saint Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of difficult cases, of things almost despaired of. Pray for me. I am so helpless and alone. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly this one. (Pause and name your intention specifically.) I promise, blessed Saint Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen. Saint Jude, pray for us. Saint Jude, intercede for the impossible cases of every life. Saint Jude, friend of those without options, hear my prayer.
